Feast of the Epiphany
Changelings
Humans who were taken by the fae and escape by fighting their way through the deadly maze the is the barrier between the Summerlands and our world, the Hedge. Changelings feed off of human emotions the way a vampire feeds on human blood. Changelings victims are almost always left alive but the feeding cause psychological damage the more a changeling feeds from a single more the fragile that person psyche becomes. All of changelings are damaged some more than others. No two changelings had the same experience in the Summerland or during their escape. One thing that shared is that they all saw and experienced things of wonder and terror beyond what they thought was possible. The appearance of the changeling reflects how their time was spent in the Summerlands. Those who were kept as pets or beast now have facial features and other physical characteristics of the creatures they used to be and it is easier for them to connect to the beast within the human they used to be. For some it is vaguely cat like eyes for others they must hide a tail under their garments. Other who taken for their beauty or talent they become the most like the fae, they are people who are trying to how behave as humans but they don’t quite remember the rules. The changelings are as varied as the uses that the imaginative fae could devise to use them for. In New Orleans, however, changelings tend to fall into two categories. Those who have adjusted and those who haven’t. The adjusted ones tend to work as street performs, entertainers at burlesque shows, the circus, basically the other worldly charm that New Orleans is famous for is usually brought to you by the other worldly talents of the changelings. Those that haven’t adjusted live off the dredges of society feeding off the emotions of the local drug addicts. Even though this violates the councils rule of protecting the local citizens the council members including the humans do not care as the changelings are feeding off of social undesirables.
